ANDREW MARKHAM
Andrew Markham, Untitled (2009) |
Markham has a diverse practice that incorporates performance, photography, sculpture, filmmaking as well as writing-as-art-practice. As well as a number of practical concerns, like participation, his practice looks to encourage discussion around notions of queer identity, communication, the failure of relationships, temporality and memory. Markham is heavily influenced by cultural, social and philosophical theory and his interest lies in Deleuzian notions of becoming, the queering of space and time proposed by Ahmed, as well as the state of flux of Bergman. Much of this theoretical influence can be found within his writing practice. Furthermore, Markham is currently working alongside a London-based director, where a script developed by the artist is to be taken from the page into a live performance environment. Markham continues to perform nationally and internationally (recently in New York, San Francisco and Paris) and has made recent moves into the fashion styling industry, where he teaches the subject at undergraduate level. In collaboration, he is currently working on the production of an artzine as well as developing a new body a film-based installation work. Markham has exhibited in London, Leeds and Manchester. |
